Though I am 54 I have not got my menopause and the bleeding has been very heavy and painful during periods. My doctor suggested 3 remedies 1) use of drugs. I was using medicines by still the pain was severe. 2) so she suggested that I go in for uterus removal.. But since I was afraid of the after effects of Hysterectomy I ruled out surgery. 3) so the last option was to wait for menopause to set in which may be any time now, and in the meanwhile to try to induce menopause by taking injection. One doctor suggested LUCRIN 11.25 mg and another one Luprodex Depot.
That is why I want to opt for injection and use it once which the doctors told will last for 3 months and if menopause doesn't set in try one more shot.

I hope that by the time menopause sets in.

Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mrs. XXXXXXX
Have you undergone a workup of the heavy bleeding ( menorrhagia ).
You should have had the following investigations done -
1. Pelvic ultrasound scan.
2. Hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin
If these investigations are normal, then the bleeding is caused by disturbed hormone levels which are common during peri menopause.
If drug therapy has failed, then Lucrin / Luprodex is a good next option.
It is certainly something that should be tried prior to hysterectomy.
You are right that once menopause sets in, most of the hormone related problems subside on their own.
Both Lucrin and Luprodex are the same preparations, only the brand and strength varies.
You can try either one.
Side effects include nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, irregular bleeding, hot flushes, mood changes, alteration in bone density or liver functions with prolonged use, hair loss, joint pain etc.
Most of these are minor and rare, and the benefits outweigh the potential side effects.
You can surely try one shot, and then see how it benefits you.
If any reports that I mentioned have been done so far, you can upload them so I can go through them.
Take care.
