What Causes Foul Smelling Vagina, Brownish Discharge After Menstruation?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Dec 2014
Question: I am almost four months postpartum. About a month ago there started to be a terrible, rotten, odor coming from my vagina. In the mean time I got my period. It came and went, but now there is still the horrible smell and a dark brown, very water, discharge. It's constant. Even directly after a shower the odor is there. What is this?

Brief Answer:
Please, you have a probable infection!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

These symptoms are suggestive of postpartum genital tract infection which could be the vaginal, cervix and less likely the uterus. Please, talk to your gynecologist for evaluation and cultures to identify the exact cause and treat fully. This probably represents a low grade infection that keeps going on without causing any acute distressing symptoms. Please, seek medical care as soon as possible.

I hope this helps. I am still available to address any concerns that you may have. I wish you well.
