Brief Answer:
Mainly life style modification.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HCM.
I am Dr Aslam here to help you.

The treatment of hypercholesterolemia depends on many factors like-cholesterol level, lipid profile, presence of other risk factors like diabetes/hypertension/family history of any coronary or cerebrovascular events etc.

Initially we advise life style modifications. If this fails to lower,or there are high risk factors,we go for lipid lowering drugs like statins.

The life style modifications recommended are:
1)Regular moderate exercise-like 40-45 minutes of walking/swimming daily.
2)Avoid smoking and alcohol.
3)Reduce the amount of fat intake in the diet, especially of animal origin.
4)Increase the amount green leafy veges and fruits in the diet.High fiber diet is also good.
These are the the most useful steps, both prophylactic and therapeutic,to have a favorable lipid profile.

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.
Thank you.
