Question: I want to know how to find out whether i have adhesion in my intestine.

Brief Answer: Standing X-ray abdomen and Enteroclysis Detailed Answer: Hi. Thanks for a short and specific question. Symptoms which you may get : Pain in abdomen with a character of spasm, comes on suddenly and go away, may coincide with nausea and/or vomiting. There can be distension of abdomen with gaseous feeling, may be rumbling, gurgling or tinkling sound. Sometimes there can be no passage of gases and/or feces. There can be a history of previous abdominal surgery or infection in the past. I would advise the following investigations in a systematic way: First of all; an X-ray of the abdomen in a STANDING position particularly when in pain, distension. This is the easiest, cheapest and best diagnostic tool. Yet should be confirmed by: Enteroclysis by an expert Radiologist ( every Radiologist may not be doing this) wherein a small Freka tube ( no pain or discomfort) is passed and liquid barium or water-soluble radio-opaques XXXXXXX is pushed under fluoroscopic guidance for real-time passage to be seen in the screen. This gives the perfect diagnosis about the adhesions / cause of intestinal obstruction. Lastly as a Surgeon we do ''DIAGNOSTIC'' Laparoscopy to confirm the diagnosis , ascertain the cause, and is many times a ''THERAPEUTIC'' procedure at the same time as ''bands '' are the easiest to treat with the most satisfying results. Actuslly,i have appendicectomy done in 2001. And i have a sudden left sided abd pain yesterday nite. But generally now i'm better. I manage to pass out pasty stool this motning, now tummy not so pain already. That why i think i have adhesion .

I'm worried too. Luckily now i got no pain. If my lower abd pain again. Do u think its adhesion. Do i need to go hospital then .

Brief Answer: No need to visit hospital if you have no pain now. Detailed Answer: No; it does not look to be due to adhesions. No need to go to hospital. It is very rare to get adhesions after 13 years. So do not worry. Your pain now looks to be due to mild form of colitis.
