Brief Answer:
Over a month

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Pain due to herpes is because of the infection of nerve endings. They get triggered and thus perception is high as well. If you are taking pain medications you should keep the pain at bay. Otherwise you can ask your provider to increase the dose / frequency. A good pain killer like Gabapentin, Pregabalin should help you.

Usually for an octagenarian the nerve endings are on verge of degeneration. So it is difficult to understand the post herpes neuralgia. Anything over a month is what we believe should be the pain without proper medication.
