Posted on Wed, 7 Dec 2016
Question: Does the plan b pill cause sever hormonal imbalance? I have already gotten a very early period, which was lighter than usual, and i have been spotting a bit, i have had extreme nipple pain, but the rest of my breast feels fine. I took a home pregnancy test yesterday showing negative as well. I am just worried and confused.

Brief Answer:
yes, it affect hormone levels

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, since emergency contraception is hormonal in nature, it can affect the menstrual cycle.
It can affect the intensity and timing of the periods and may also cause breakthrough bleeding.

The response can vary from one person to the next. Some may have the period sooner, in others it can be delayed.
It maybe lighter or heavier.

As a hormone, it can also affect the breasts or nipples like the reproductive hormones.

Pregnancy tests detect the HCG hormone and can diagnose pregnancy by day 11 to 14 after conception.
If the test was done around this time, then it is accurate

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
