Can Stretching Exercises For Sciatic Nerve Pain Cause Pelvic Pain?

Posted on Wed, 4 Oct 2017
Question: I had a complete hysterectomy at age 40. I am now 73 and just got over sciatic nerve pain in both sides of my body, by doing the recommended stretching exercises etc. I now have pelvic pain, which seemed to develop immediately after the sciatic pain stopped. When I sit, it feels as if I'm getting shocked in the butt, and I experience consistent pain in the pelvic area.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
It still looks to me like neural pain and some other nerves such as pudendal nerve or sacral nerves may be involved. This is treated same as sciatic, with rest, painkillers and steroid shots. However, if pain is associated with nausea, vomit, bloating or vaginal bleeding, you should see doctor to rule out intestinal obstruction. If there wont be improvement in next several days it would be good to do electroneurography or MRI scan of lumbal and sacral spine.
Wish you good health. Regards

Would it be harmful to walk around the block to exercise my legs? I feel my legs and body in general becoming weaker as a result of all this resting. I lift light weights, and try to keep my upper body stronger, but sometimes even that irritates the nerves in the pelvic area too.

Detailed Answer:
hi.
Yes, you can have do everyday activities, there is no need for strict rest, but avoid movements that aggravate pain. YOu can walk and do stretchig exercises in lying position for example. Also, Diclofenac in combination with Benzodiazepines may be helpful to release muscle spasms and neural pain.
