Can Prostatitis Cause Urinary Retention?

Question: My Uncle is at age of 73. He is not able to sense when urine is coming while sleeping in night? What could be the cause and treatment for this? Please guide.

Mostly due to enlarged Prostate

Thanks for query .

Loss of sensation to pass urine is mostly due to what is called as Chronic Retention with Overflow secondary to Enlarged Prostate and needs to be evaluated.

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis with specific mention of Post Void Urine Residue (P.V.R.)

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.
