Can Laxative Abuse Affect Pregnancy?
Question: today morning I inserted laxatives in my vagina by mistake and last night I had unprotected sex with my husband ,I am 36 years old and I got my period on the 11 of October ... I don't know if I should be scared or worried and if it effects pregnancy if I want to get pregnant

If you have accidentally introduced laxative suppositories in your vagina then firstly it is unlikely to get absorbed and create a laxative effect as desired,being osmo-regulated, it may either remain unabsorbed or may just pass out of vagina.
Secondly as you were in your fertile period ,your chances of getting pregnant after unprotected sex would be decreased as sperms may get killed or rendered immotile or fragmented by the presence of laxatives in vagina and the chance of fertilisation is fairly reduced.
Though it is not mentioned in literature that if it would act as a spermicide but it may cause absorption of the seminal fluid and reduce chances of sperms to travel up the reproductive tract. So recommended that you should clean yourself up and try again tonight with fresh intercourse.the ovum is live for atleast 24-48 hrs after ovulation , so i feel you can try for next 2 days as well and if you are lucky, you may conceive even.
