Blood in urine is always a concern to be taken care of except in few cases like strenuous exercises and drugs. Blood in urine can be seen to the naked eye is called as macroscopic haematuria and if it is recognized under microscope it called microscopic haematuria.

 

There are many causes which cause blood in urine and this can cause anxiety to the patient but in few cases it is not a matter of concern

Urinary Tract Infections:

These are very common in women usually after sexual activity

• This can include infections of the urinary bladder, urethra or infection of any structures through which urine flows in the body
• Burning pain during urination, urge to urinate frequently, strong smelling urine and abdominal pain are the common symptoms encountered
• Kidney infections such as pyelonephritis, glomerulonephritis can occur when infection transfers from blood stream or from bladder and also nephropathies from autoimmune diseases.

Bladder or Kidney Stones:

• There are many minerals in the urine which can concentrate on certain conditions and remain in your bladder which cause blood in urine
• Blood in urine, Excruciating pain, fatigue, blockage or reduced urine flow are few common symptoms
• Calcium, uric acid, struvite, cystine are the few common types noted.

Enlarged or infectious prostate:

• Prostate is a male sexual organ that surrounds the upper part of urethra just below the bladder which enlarges particularly in older men and partially blocks the urine flow 
• Infections of the prostate called prostatitis which also causes blood in urine.

Injury and sexually transmitted diseases:

• This is the most common cause that result in haematuria
• Any injury or blow or during sport  or penetrating wounds which effects the kidney either directly or indirectly can lead to blood in urine.

Cancer:

Cancer of the prostate or bladder or kidney which are in advanced or final stages cause blood in urine which can be a first symptom of concern

Inherited disorders:

Alport syndrome and sickle cell anemia in which they affect glomeruli of kidney and frequent breakage of red blood cells and its number reduction in the blood respectively cause blood in urine

Drugs or Medicines:

Aspirin, penicillin, warfarin, and heparin are the few common drugs that cause blood in urine

Strenuous Exercise:

Athletes and body building persons who have strenuous workouts cause blood in urine.
