Hello and welcome to HCM, Has the sharp cap fractured the tooth enamel? If the tooth enamel has been fractured the tooth cannot build up on its own. The defect has to be build up using tooth material by a dentist. A broken tooth cannot be built on its own. In case there is injury to the gums, the injured site will heal with time but the fractured tooth will not heal. Thanks Dr Shailja P Wahal
