What Are The Chances For A 27 Year Old Having A Stroke After A L5 Fusion?

I have been told i need L5 fusion but am in complete fear of the risks that have been decribed to me. Enough not to have the surgery and also give me panic attacks daily thinking of those risks coming true. what are the statistics of a 27 year old having a stroke, heart attack or paralysis from the above surgery. ? and if you have the fusion, and you wake up ok, do you have to live in the fear of those risks occurring later on ? Im so scared, and wish i never got told the risks and i could have the operation i know i ned. Thank you.

Hope for the best and be positive.Unlike in elderly with comorbidities,in your age the fusion surgery mostly go well without complications.Chances of complete Paralysis very negligible but damage to nerves(<1%) might occur, that resolves mostly by 3-6 months. Your treating doctors will take care of things.Hope i have answered for your query.Wish you good health.
