Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi there ~

I understand your concerns and your fight with your illness, aka narcolepsy. I believe that there are effective medications available to help deal with the condition and that there are many ways to keep awake and alert. The most common medications are the ones you mention nuvigil/provigil which are armodafinil and modafinil which are very effective in daytime drowsiness. I believe that you may also need treatment for sleep apnea after a nocturnal sleep study called polysomnogram. Adderall may also be effective, however it is more so in people with ADHD and I am not sure if you have been tested for the same. I hope you consult a qualified psychiatrist that is able to take a complete history and do a physical examination before prescribing any medications and titrating the dose to get a good response from them. I hope this helps.

Take care and have a lovely day!
