my grand son aged 4 yrs 9 months is having frequent attacks of cold &upper respiratory track infection. He also has rising temperature during these bouts. So far paediatricians consulted had confirmed chest to be clear &diagnosed the illness as viral infections. He had symptoms of bronchial asthma last year & was treated by a homoeopath for about 10 months from July 2014 to May 2015 & was apparently normal with that.
But the recurrent attacks of cold &cough started from September & currently he is facing the 3rd bout from yesterday morning. Last night he had heavy &fast breathing while sleeping. A paediatrician consulted today again says chest is clear .An X-Ray taken to ward off any pneumonitis which also gave negative results. He has then prescribed Cefpodoxime twice for 3days to getrid of recurring upper resp. infection ,Levolin surup because of past history of asthma attack& paracetamol.
My doubt is if chest is clear as confirmed from the X-Ray also is there any need for anti -biotic. I heard that cefpodoxime itself has side effects like breathlessness, diarrhoea etc in some cases.Kindly advise
