What Are The Chances Of Contracting Hepatitis C After Getting Accidentally Pricked By A Contaminated Needle Of A Patient?

hi I work I care home and was cleaning one of the lady s rooms didn t notice there was a badge with the pin sticking out, I pricked my finger it didn t bleed until I squeezed it and out achol gel on, this lady has hep C what s the chance of me getting it?

Hi,

The chances of your getting hepatitis C infection are very minimal, as you were not directly in contact with the blood of the patient. More over, you also took the preventive measures, like applying alcohol gel etc. Still, in such situations, flushing the pricked site with plenty of water is mainly recommended as a first preventive measure. However, being in contact with the blood of the patient positive with hepatitis C will increase the chances of getting infected by 3-10%.
