Would Total Beta HCG Or Free Beta HCG Help Detect Down Syndrome?

Dear Dr, Total HCG assays detect intact and nicked HCG forms as well as the free β subunit to provide the most useful clinical information. I am aware that the free beta hCG is more suitable to detect Down Syndrome. As a Gynecologist, what is your take on the clinical difference/importance of the two, Total beta hCG vs Free beta hCG? Your reply is very highly appreciated. Thank you

Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Still now, total Beta HCG levels are more practical way to detect Down's syndrome in spite of more chances of getting positive results with free Beta HCG, practical application of which is still debatable. free Beta HCG measurement may be used in future.
I find this answer helpful
