Would Remicade And Otezla Affect Scratch Test Results?

I am a 67 yr old man who suffers from psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and osteoarthritis. I also suffer from allergies. I recently had septoplasty and after surgery I had both blood test and scratch tests and all results came back negative. I take Remicade and Otezla for my psoriasis and arthritis. Is it possible that the meds I take to suppress my immune system prevents the tests from coming up positive? The Dr. said it is not unusual for the tests to come back negative.

Hi,

It is a good sign that allergy tests are negative. However, it does not mean that the immuno suppression caused by drugs give negative results.

An allergy test observes particularly the IgE mediated reaction while immunosuppressants usually affect the whole immune system. Therefore, you might get a positive scratch test even while on immunosuppressants.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
