Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I will be having a biopsy for prostate cancer, but it is likely I have the disease (PSA count of 24 and DRE detection of lump on prostate). I had plans to travel to Kauai in 3 weeks and to be away for a month. My urologist says if I have prostate cancer he can temporarily block it with Lupron so I can travel and have my prostate removed when I get back. I have read about Lupron online and wonder how wise it would be to have the injection, given potential side effects. Also, if the cancer has spread outside the prostate, would the Lupron also block that?
As per my clinical experience, the Lupron contains Gonadotropin releasing hormone working at central pathway of hormone release with excellent clinical results. There are variety of side effects of Lupron such as: - Rash, eruptions at injection site - Low libido - Anorexia - Headache - Tiredness - Sweating - Palpitation
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
