Will Too Many Medications Affect Pregnancy For A 33-year-old Female?

I m 33 years old. After getting injured in the Army 10 years ago I was put on massive doses of pain meds; 120mils methadone for pain management and 120 mils oxycodone daily for breakthrough pain management. Yes I know that s massive, in fact the doctor later was adjusted and does not practice any longer in my state. I got off all that junk 6-7 years back but now take 8-12 mils subutex (buprenorphine) daily as prescribed. four years ago I had a testosterone check and it was 188, I took test IM for 1 year as prescribed and my wife and I wanted another child and so I quite. I have gained weight, lost motivation, all the above, just was tested last week and testosterone level was 118. I want back on it but we want to get pregnant again and have yet talked with my personal doctor. Any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain medications are generally not to be taken in pregnancy. However, in case of emergency some doctors do prescribe but in minimum dose. It should never be taken as a routine as it may cause mild developmental delays in the developing fetus, risk of ADHD, birth defects & cause fertility problems later in life of the baby delivered according to some researchers. If you are planning for a baby then you should get all the routine tests required for conception done (both partners). Get all the deficiencies & pathology treated before you conceive to have a healthy baby.Stay away from addictions if any & lead a healthy lifestyle.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
