Will Gall Bladder Removal Affect One S Life Expectancy?

am a 55 years old man , perfectly healthy , though over weight but no health problems at all , do regular walks of about 6 kms a day , gym thrice a week , and active life style . am a helicopter pilot and a month ago during regular medical check discovered with a single 11 MM gall bladder stone , I did not have any symptoms , I was put medically down temporarily and advised to have my gall bladder removed to become medically fit once again to commence flying . I have got my gall bladder removed on 03 Aug 2015 by Laproscopic surgery method . I have following questions ... 1. Will it effect my life expectancy ? 2. Am a veterinarian , so can I continue taking my usual diet . 3. Can I take alcohol ? A peg or two of whisky 4. Will I be more susceptible to diarrhea ? 5. what life style changes I will have to make ? 6. Will I gain more weight ? 7. Any behavioral changes expected ? 8. Will it effect my sexual performance ? 9. Am basically a chicken eater with some fish (once a month) and a mutton (once a month). can I continue with this diet ? 10 . What health problems can I expect on day to day basis after gall bladder removal ? 11. in the long run will I remain absolutely normal ?

Hello sir, i understand your concern.
First of all the function of gall bladder is to store the bile when there is no food to digest in stomach and intestines. And its most important function is to dissolve the fats in the diet so as it could be digested and absorbed by the body. Answers to your questions-
1. it doesn't have any effect over life expectancy. You will live same with or without gall bladder
2. yes you can continue whatever diet you take, only the digestion of fat foods will be difficult so try to avoid fatty foods, fried foods. I would like to tell you that digestion problem with fatty food is seen in around 10-20 % of patients only who undergo this surgery. You might be in the 80% group who can digest fat food without problem.
3. yes you can take alcohol but in limits as it can affect liver.
4. as I said in 2nd question, if you are in 10-20 % people group who have difficulty digesting food containing more fats, then you might have diarrhea.
5. not required
6. nothing like that, no effect on weight
7. no behavioral changes
8. not at all
9. yes, non veg diet is allowed, no problem with that
10. no problem at all, unless diarrhea and indigestion if too much fats in food.
11. yes sir, you will be very much normal in long run
i hope i answered your query well.
Don't worry, take care.
Thank you
