Will An Enlarged Prostrate Cause Erectile Dysfunction?

I am 57 yr old. I am under treatment for enlarged prostate for last six years. Now I am prescribed with Silodosin 8 mg per day for last six months. Last few months, am not having proper erection and no ejaculation. Is there any other treatment for enlarged prostate?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern.
Yes enlarged prostate can cause erectile dysfunction.
Hormonal therapy use for treatment also can cause erectile dysfunction.
You can perform minimal invasive surgery for prostate enlargement.

Following are the other causes of erectile dysfunction:
fatigue, stress, relationship issues, performance anxiety, alcohol consumption, diabetes, obesity, tobacco use, .
So please do health check up to exclude above causes.

Take following advice
1. Start exercising, losing weight, stopping smoking and alcohol if you are taking
2. Tablet viagra about one hour before sexual activity.
3. Testosterone Replacement Therapy
4. Alprostadil urethral suppository
OR drug : paroxetine 10 mg 30-40 min before sex
5. Talk with your doctor
6. Do discussion with your partner that help in gaining psychological trust
7. Distract your mind from sexual stimulation
8. withdrawing the penis altogether,
9. purposefully ejaculating before sexual intercourse
10. using more than one condom
11. use squeez technique to reduce excessive arousal

Hope this may help you.
Take care
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
