Will Abstaining From Smoking Reduce Acid Reflux?

Hello. Quick question: I quit smoking 4 days ago and find each day my acid reflux seems to be getting worse. I haven't have symptoms of AR for 6 years since my last son was born, and now it's back full force. Will it go away as I continue to stay cigarette clean? I do not drink alcohol and I do not use drugs.

Hello
Smoking actually aggravate acid reflux, though indirectly ( as few patient feel that they get relief due to smoking , this is actually misconception ).
Following measures may be useful for you to get rid off this acid reflux.
Try raising the head of your bed about 4 inches with blocks . It might also help to avoid eating or drinking for 2-3 hours before you lie down. To help control stomach acid one should not drinks with caffeine in them . Avoid greasy or spicy or oily foods , don't eat chocolates or pizza or burger or sweets .
Also take some antacid but if you feel severe acidity you may need drugs like proton pump inhibitors like pantaprazole -d once or twice in day till complete relief .
When such patient visit I advise them to take rebamipide 100 mg 2 tablet twice in day for 4 weeks .
Since this is a prescription drugs , so consult your physician and get a prescription.
Over eating is the another reason of such symptoms , so please be aware about that also.
Tension and anxiety are another most common reason of such symptoms , so be careful.
Hope these measures will be useful for you.
Good luck.
