Hi, I had gone through your question. I understand your concern. TB transmits mainly by air-born droplets when an infected person coughs. When someone breathes in these droplets which contain TB bacteria, they get infected. Not everyone who inhales bacteria develop disease. Whether someone develops TB disease depends on that person's immunity.

Regarding if you can transfer disease to your contacts, depends on presence of TB bacteria in your spit. This is checked by testing 3 samples of sputum on consecutive days, looking for TB bacteria (generally called Acid Fast Bacilli). If your chest X-ray shows cavities (empty spaces in lungs), chances for presence of bacteria is more.

Anyway, more important is for you to start Anti TB medications at the earliest. Usually this is a 6 months course. Once you start treatment, by 2 weeks most of the patients become non-infective.

Hope I have answered your queries. Thanks for using HCM.
