Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 78, I take irbesartin 75mg for slight hypertension. this appears to have wrecked my sex life as I have trouble maintaining an erection during intercourse with my wife. Additionally I find that the slightest scratch causes my now thin skin to tear and bleed. Are these side effects of the medication and what do youm suggest I can do to improve the situation. I am 175 cm high and my weight is 70kg. I am fit for my age and exercise daily. 30 minutes walk & jog with my 2 dogs, 20 chin-ups & 30 push-ups is my daily routine. I will be interested to receive your comments and if you suggest I can discuss this with my local Doctor. Thanks, Roger Veness
Dear Roger , Welcome to healthcaremagic.com and thanks for sharing your concern with us. I would like to inform you that your current medicine does not cause ED and other mentioned complaint. It has been documented that this medicine even is helpful in ED issues in hypertensives. One thing which I would like to mention here is that it would be better if your GP switch you to calcium channel blocker for your high blood pressure that is according to latest guidelines for people above 55 year of age. I would suggest you to exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet . Avoid alcohol and smoking . Keep your blood pressure under control with life style modifications and prescribed medicines .These lifestyle modification tips will definitely help you in ED . If ED persists then consult your GP as there are medicines available to resolve the ED issue . Best Regards, DR.S.TOMAR
