Will Depo Shot Cause Bleeding?

Hello I am on the depot shot which Ive been on since August just a couple of weeks after I had my daughter. I've had depot before and never bled and still haven't till now. It started this past Sunday and is a dark brown. It is not much in amount and just started having a very slight tinge of red. Is this normal? And if so why am I bleeding now?

Hi,

Breakthrough bleeding, spotting, and changes to menstrual flow are some of the most common side effects during the first year of use. If the bleeding is heavy or occurs more than a week or associated with severe cramps, kindly visit your physician.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General and Family Physician
