Why Is My Hand Involuntarily Spasming?

I am left handed. In 1993 I was thrown from a very large horse and broke my neck. I recovered fine and up until a few years ago everything seemed fine. I noticed I began having increasing difficulty writing, not typing. Today I can t hold a pen to write my name, I can t hold a fat marker or crayon and within the last few months I have found it is becoming increasingly difficult to hold a cup or mug without my hand involuntarily spasming. There is no pain associated with this. What do I do?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms that you are having are related to a nerve root compression at the level of the cervical spine. This can happen due to spondylotic changes in the neck. MRI scan can confirm this.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Praveen Tayal, Orthopaedic Surgeon
