Why Is Valacyclovir Prescribed For?

I have never really liked to take medicines. However, for the last few years I have taken Valacyclovir HCL with an as needed directive due to a virus I contacted. I am also aware that this virus is due to sexual contact and have abstained since over 3 years ago, after my diagnosis. Recently, I became curious after having skin issues and wondering if this has become a health factor with any of my internal organs due to taking the medication. I have been aware I needed to drink plenty of water, but am still concerned, if the medicine may have caused internal injuries while seeking help. I am under the care of my OBGYN (yeast) and medical doctor (dermititis/excema) recently for skin issues. Have not been told this is related. Should I request screenings for any of my organs? Have not had any pain in those areas, but just in case, what do I need to listen to my body for in that case? Would it be a good idea to discuss this concern with my doctors at the next visit?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Valacyclovir is prescribed for viral infection. The lesion you had on your skin may be related to shingles or varicella-zoster virus. It is not a sexually transmitted disease.

The virus is the same that causes chickenpox and can get reactivated in case of low immunity. Taking valacyclovir will help you get better faster.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
