Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello my name is Heftzivah I am an Enrolled Nurse (medication endorsed) in Australia, (not working at the moment). I have been asked be a neighbor to please tutor her son an a trainee enrolled nurse student for his next medication test. He came to me with a question I am not sure about? As at work it was just a normal thing to give paracetamol along with morphine, when a patient still had pain after been given morphine. The question was; Why is paracetamol given along side morphine? This was not in my study books so I am stumped to help him with that answer? Is this also called break through medication and what does break through medication really mean? I would sincerely appreciate your wisdom, knowledge and advice : ) it would be such a blessing to be able to help this young man and it would be good for me to know when I start work again? with kind regards Heftzivah Perez

Why Is Paracetamol Given Along With Morphine?
Hello, Paracetamol is given with morphine to increase the pain-relieving effect of the morphine without actually having to increase the dose of the Morphine. Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Kathy Shattler, Dietitian & Nutritionist
