Why Is COPD Diagnosed Only After Suffering A Flu Infection?
Hi My name is Bonnie and I have been sick since January 1. 2018 I had the flu that lasted a very long time and had a bad cough. Doctor gave me cough medicine and sent me home. After feeling a bit better I still am very fatigued and have heaviness in my chest and not being able to breath. Went to another doctor he took xrays and said i hac COPD. Well I didnt have that problem before the flu so why now?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
For diagnosis of COPD, you have to undergo some breathing tests. Besides its symptoms are: • chronic coughing with sputum production • recurrent infections • Dyspnoea mostly associated with chronic smoker So before concluding anything, consult Pulmonologist and get respiratory function tests done.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions. Regards, Dr. Hiren Hirpara
