Why Do I Have A Swelling In My Upper Lip?

My upper lip is swollen on the right side. It feels like an ingrown hair. There is a bit of pain when i apply pressure to one area, very similar to cystic acne or an ingrown hair. However, the painful area is outside the swelling area. Also, the swelling is rather large for acne. Can you help with what this might be?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

I would keep a possibility of Furuncle with surrounding cellulitis.

If i was the treating doctor i would have prescribed you an oral antibiotic (Penicillin group or Cephalosporin group) for a week along with topical antibacterial like 2% mupirocin ointment twice daily.

An OTC pain killer like ibuprofen once or twice daily will help you with the pain part.

take care
regards
