Hello and welcome to HCM,
The causes of red blotches on legs are:
1. Insect bite - allergic reaction
2. Vasculities
3. Purpura due to decreased platelets
4. Hemochromotosis- due to excess iron deposition in the skin

The possibility of hemochromotosis as suggested by your doctor is caused by excessive iron deposition in body.
The excess iron can deposit in skin and cause bronze appearance of the skin.
The treatment for deposition of iron is removal or chelation of excess iron.
Support stockings are helpful in varicose veins and not hemochromotosis.

Thanks and take care
