Why Am I Feeling Disoriented After A Head Injury?

Hello Doctor, I was travelling by train an hour or so ago and bumped my head on the gate shutter and felt pain on top of my head. I did not lose consciousness or feeling dizzy nor any vomiting. I am feeling a bit disoriented and dazed. I came home, walked up stairs and talking normally. But the disoriented feeling is theer mildly. Is this sign of consussions or any serious injury? Do I need to visit a hospital or is there any need for a scan? There is v mild heaviness (no bump) on top of my head and nothing else. What do I do? Thanks. Ali

Hello, thanks for asking form HCM.

I can understand your concern. The disorientation means you should consult ER ASAP. It is good that you did not loose consciousness, no dizziness and you were able to walk/talk.

The doctor will evaluate you to rule out serious head injury. He may advise CT head to detect bleed in brain or fracture of skull bone. Further treatment will be decided after CT report.

At home, you should
: Observe yourself for vomiting, persistent headache, seizures, focal deficit.
: Keep head at higher level.
: Apply icepacks at bump site
: Avoid drug which can cause sedation like tramadol/opioid drugs

Hope it will help you.

Thanks
