hai,

unilateral(single side) swelling of leg possibly chance of filariasis or any defect in veins as your consulted doctor said.

chronic stage of filariasis leads the condition Elephantiasis,in this condition it mostly affect the lower limbs (leg, foot).

to rule out blood smear test for microfilaria is the gold standard test.
Addition to that doppler ultrasound needed to rule out any vein abnormality.

kindly visit a vascular surgeon specialist to rule out the cause and proper treatment and management.

thank you
hope i answered your query.
