When Should The Staples Left After A Colon Cancer Surgery Be Removed?
On Nov. 7th I had my second operation for colon cancer. They removed a foot & half of my right colon. I go home on Wednesday 15th but this time I had 27 staples and not stitches like the last time. These started to catch on my clothing and I was wondering how long they have to be left.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per my surgical experience, the staples after surgery usually remain for around 10 to 14 days as per the clinical recovery. After the desired time period and assessment of wound healing, the staples are removed with staple removal by the surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
