When Is Taking Misoprostol Recommended After Taking Mifepristone For Abortion?

I am 56 days pregnant and as per the instructions I took mifepristone yesterday at 2 am. I would like to take misoprotol orally as it is illegal here to abort. So when should I take it and should I take four tablets at a time or 2 at one go and next two after three hours. Kindly advice . Many thanks Kind regards Xx

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
You need to take the pills after consultation with a Gynaecologist and abortion by means of using pills should always be done under medical supervision. If you do not consult a doctor before taking these tablets, there are major risks which could be involved such as heavy bleeding, infection, incomplete abortion or un-diagnosed ectopic pregnancy.
It is possible to undergo abortion by use of such pills if the pregnancy is less than 10 weeks.
Also, the pregnancy should be confirmed and dated by a doctor, who will then decide if pills would work properly or not.
Then the correct dosage and schedule of drug intake should be followed.
The pregnancy termination kit comes as a kit of 5 tablets. One tablet containing mifepristone that is to be taken orally followed by 48 hours later by vaginal insertion of 2 misoprostol tablets. The rest of the 2 pills of tablet misoprostol are to be inserted vaginally 12 hours after the vaginal insertion of the first 2 tablets. This procedure must be followed irrespective of weather the bleeding starts or not.
You should wait for heavy bleeding with cramps and expulsion of fleshy mass to occur within few hours.
Once the bleeding starts, it can continue for a few days, and spotting can follow for a few more days.
It is compulsory to have a follow up visit after 15 days to document an ultrasound scan which should show that the uterus is completely empty and all the products of conception has been expelled.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
