Whatis The Reason Of Increased Heartbeat?

I have a Fitbit. My resting heart beat usually is around 62/63 it has been as low as 57 and as high as 75. I walk to work daily which is around 2miles. It s a flat walk. Since I ve had my Fitbit and can monitor my exercise it has become apparent that my heartbeat rockets. Today it hit 171. This is just walking. Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Heartbeat of 171 beats per minute is exorbitantly higher than normal. Normally, even with exercise, heartbeat could reach up to 120 beats per minute. Hence, it appears that there could be an error in the gadget itself projecting false reading. It is possible as these are electronic in nature and does require frequent calibration and servicing from time to time for optimum functioning.
In case you had such high heart rate, you should have had associated symptoms like palpitations, flutters and headache. If you do not have any of such symptoms, then there is no need to worry about it.
Kindly consult Physician and get your cardiac activity checked once to make sure things are alright, which will take away your worries related to it.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
