Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What To Eat Post Laparoscopic Appendectomy Surgery?
My boyfriend had a laparoscopic appendectomy surgery performed two nights ago and he has not had a bowel movement since, but has passed some gas (it was painful). What is safe to feed him while he is recovering? He is taking Tylenol 3. The constipation is very painful.
Give him soft liquid diet for 1 to 2 days. If he is not getting any vomiting or pain abdomen and if he passed stools, then you can give him semi solid food.
Avoid spicy food and non-vegetarian food. You can give soft cooked dal, churned rice or soft bread etcetera. Use syrup lactulose thirty ml after dinner for five days, if stool not passed.
If symptoms not improved, then please consult your doctor so that he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
