Hi,

Thanks for your query.

The treatment of the migraine it consists of two parts. First one is prophylaxis, that you have to take every day irrespective of pain and the second one is for symptomatic, that you have to take this medicine.

For prophylaxis you can take amitriptyline/ propranolol/valproic acid every day and during your severe headache you can take any pain killer or NSAID (Naproxen is proved to be the best).

You need approximate 4-6 weeks to get the maximal response.

Please consult with your physician for selection of the drugs and prescribed them in proper doses.

The cause and treatment of Migraine and that of a simple headache are quiet different. If you have a headache, try taking a pain killer and some rest,and fluids.
If your headaches are recurrent and have a difinite pattern and triggers, best way is to avoid triggers and destress.
A neurophysician can help with migrain treatment. You may also try Homoeopathy for the same.
