What Should Be The Normal BP Readings In An Active Marathon Runner?

I am an active (marathon runner.....although not a FAST marathoner) female runner, age 47. I am in good health, although about 16 pounds over my desired weight. I do not take any medications, and try to incorporate 5-7 days of hiking and/or running in my week. What should my blood pressure look like on an everyday basis, with no medical history of low or high blood pressure? THANK YOU!

Hello,

Its good that you are involved in physical activities like running in a marathon and other exercises to stay fit. If you do not have any issues regarding blood pressure previously then its a good thing. There is no ideal blood pressure values for atheletes seperately. For every person the normal value of blood pressure is 120/80 mm of Hg. In some people and may be in atheletes there is slight lower value than this is seen which is not a matter of concern.

You can get yours checked by paying a visit to your doctor or with a doctor’s advice you can measure it as there are automatic BP apparatus are available in market.

As long as you are not experiencing any symptoms of low or high BP its all good. Exercising is a good thing and you should keep doing it. For the matter of weight that you said its slightly more than it should be then you can consult a dietician and follow her advice to have the desired weight you are targetting to get.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
