What Should Be Done For Stomach Disorders Despite Taking Omni-O?

My daughter ( 21 year old) is suffering from IBS for the past three years.... once she started staying in college hostel she had an attack of food poisoning and right from that time she is experiencing terrible problems. Almost every day she has stomach upset or sometimes constipation and sometimes loose stools. Last week she has loose stools for the past forur days now on medication. She is taking 1) Omni-O, 2) Cyclopam 3) Nerpro 4) Providac and her doctor asked her to return after five days. She is tired and cant attend the class. Can you pleas give us an opinion what should be done . Her weight is steady, When she comes for vacation stomach problem is very less and she seems normal. Awaiting for your suggestion and opinion for a treatment to be carried out ....Thank You

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your 21 year daughter and understood the concerns.
The basic reason behind IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome is stress and/ or anxiety. As she comes home she is getting better means the new atmosphere is not suitable for her.
Secondly an attack of food poisoning may indeed be exacerbation of IBS.
I would advice her the following:
First of all to get appropriate clinical evaluation by a Gastroenterologist.
Tests of blood, urine and stool.
Ultrasound/ CT scan of abdomen.
Colonoscopy.
If all the investigations are normal then only to say this to be IBS and treated with symptomatic and psychotherapy.
It is possible that the atmosphere in new college is not suitable for her and may need changeover.
If something specific is found out, may need treatment accordingly.
I find this answer helpful
