Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
what does it mean when the doctor says your platelets are at 75? and how low is that as i mean is that in the danger range of being low? and what would be wrong when your platelets are at 75? and what would be causing it to be at 75? and what would i have as in a disease or such thing?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Low platelets up to 75,000/ cubic millimeter is below the normal range. The biological reference range foe platelets in adults is between 1.5 to 4.5 lakhs/ cubic millimeter. Low platelets can result from idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), platelet destruction or decreased production of platelets in bone marrow. I suggest you to consult a hematologist to look for the cause of low platelets. Low platelets interfere with normal clotting process and can result in bleeding from various sites of body after trivial trauma. However, platelets up to 75,000 / cubic millimeter is well tolerated and it does not cause any severe bleeding. However, the condition needs to be treated.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
