What Leads To Itchiness In Forearms, shin And Back?

My skin (mostly forearms, shins and back) has been really itchy, when I scratch, it tends to leave bruising. I have not changed soaps or detergents and am not sure what this is from. I drink 48-64 oz of water per day, so I m not sure why my skin would be that dry.

Hello,

You are suffering from itchiness of the forearms and back. Commonly it is indicative of psoriasis, eczema or brachioradial pruritus. You are suggested to take care of your hygiene, take bath regularly, wear loose fitting cotton clothes and use antibacterial soap.

Brachioradial pruritus results either from recurring sun damage or nerve root entrapment caused by degenerative disease of the spine. Avoid extensive exposure to sunlight to prevent trigger symptoms. It causes itching and people get darkening of the skin due to scratching. Applying topical creams and ointments containing corticosteroids or capsaicin are helpful.

You are also suffering from itchiness in the shin and forearms. You are suggested to avoid scratching or picking at the itchy shins. Itchy shins and back commonly occur due to heat rash, contact dermatitis, allergy, dry skin, cold weather, age, etc. Certain diseases may trigger the symptoms like hypothyroidism or diabetes, etc. Get it treated at the earliest.

Applying hydrocortisone cream and taking antihistamines are effectively reduce the discomfort. Apply cold compress on the area affected. Avoid perfumes and harsh chemicals in body products. Avoid using harsh detergents. Take bath regularly, wear loose cotton clothes, avoid exposure to heat, and humidity.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
