What Leads To Intermittent Swelling And Pain In Left Salivary Gland?

At least 2-3 times a month, the left salivary gland on the left side of my face, swells and is quite painful. My sister has the same problem, as did our father, who had his removed. I have tried warm compresses which help with the discomfort and I have tried milking it, which hurts badly. How do I stop this thing from swelling in the first place?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
From history it seems that you might be having some chronic infection in salivary gland or duct causing this problem repeatedly.
There might be possibility of having stone in salivary duct as well.
Consult oral surgeon and get examined.
Keep oral hygiene clean and healthy.
Ok and take care.
