What Leads To Flu Like Symptoms,fever And Tailbone Pain?

Hi. Around 6 weeks ago i felt feverish and had flu-like symptoms but It didn t feel like normal flu. I felt really tired with extreme lack of energy so I went to the doctor who told me I probably had a virus and sent me home to rest. I did notice tailbone pain at the time but just thought it was a random ache so didn t bring this up to the doctor. 6 weeks on and I have had really bad tailbone pain every single day when I sit down or when I shift my body when lying down as well as still feeling weak, tired and just generally ill. Should I go back to my doctor or just wait it out a few more weeks? How would I know it s not a serious infection? I don t recall any trauma that could have caused it. I feel like the life is being sucked from me...nobody is taking me seriously.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Viral fever persisting for 6 weeks indicates re-infection by someone near you as flu should have been gone by a few weeks. Tailbone pain could have been akin to costochondritis wherein the inflammation persists as there is no history of any trauma. The possibility of a general disease like Typhoid or should be borne in mind. Other causes like liver abscess or some concealed infection should be ruled out.

I would advise you the following in such a situation:
* Consult your doctor and insist for proper clinical examination and investigations
* Tests of blood for hepatitis, typhoid and such general diseases
* Ultrasound of abdomen
* Urine routine, culture and sensitivity
* X-ray of chest
* Per-rectal examination for tailbone examination
All these would find the cause and help for a specific treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
