Are you familiar with the use of transexamic acid during cell salvage/autotransfusion? I believe this is only available as a PO drug and not IV, correct? It occurs to me that if it is a PO drug, the interaction would be minimal from shed blood? Thanks so much for any
Research has been done on patients undergoing cardiac bypass graft surgery. Tranexamic acid reduces blood loss and transfusion requirements in off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting surgery. A reduction in allogeneic blood transfusion was not evident in the presence of perioperative cell salvage. Data supports the routine use of tranexamic acid in off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting surgery.
