What Is The Treatment For High Fever , Cough And Rapid Breathing?

my daughter is 20 months old. One week ago I took her to ER for 105 temp and rapid breathing. They tested urine and for RSV. All was good. She had fever til thursday. I took her back to doc and he though she may have hand, foot, and mouth. She had one tiny blister on her tongue and one on her foot. He tested her for strep, it was negative. Friday she started coughing and congestion, when she coughed she would cry so I thought her throat. Oh and since this started last week she has been scratching her head behind her left ear. Anyway then she woke up this morning screaming and her jaw/behind her ear and some in her face was swollen. I took her to doc and they don t really know what s wrong. They did a CBC and it was 11,000. Ears are also fine. She is swelling more as the day goes and screams every now and then with pain in the swollen area. I m not sure I am ok with them just not knowing what is wrong. They did prescribe antibiotics today in case she develops an infection.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI - pneumonia) is more likely.
High grade fever, cough, congestion etc are more suggestive of pneumonia.
So better to get done chest x ray to confirm pneumonia.
If pneumonia is there then she needs Intravenous antibiotics and fluids.
So consult pediatrician and discuss all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your daughter. Thanks.
