What Is The Treatment For Boils?

My son is 26 years old and has Duchanne Muscular dystropy. His skin is extremely oily especially his face and head. He has been getting huge boils that secrete pure blood tinged oil, other days it is blood and puss. It either oozes out or squirts out under pressure. He is in extreme pain on his head all the time, we have used benzoyl peroxide erythromycin topical gel, ciclopirox topical gel, metronidazole topical cream, mupirocin topical ointment and they do not shrink the boils, is there anything else that he can get perscribed for this condition. It should be noted that he is allergic to tetracycline pills, and gels, and penicillian too.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

Seems to be suffering from severe grade of acne. In severe grade of acne apart from topical antibiotics like Benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, nadifloxacin etc Oral antibiotics like either Azithromycin should be considered.

For severe acne OR for acne unresponsive to traditional anti-acne medications, Isotretinoin can be started. It the only drug which offers any chance of long term cure and after a full course of isotretinoin significant number of people never have a recurrence of there acne.

It should be taken under the supervision of a dermatologist because of certain lab tests which are to be done before and during treatment with isotretinoin.

take care
regards
