Nephrologist 's  Response
Hi, welcome to HCM.
Kidney stone can be obstructive to urine passage or it can be non obstructive and silent.
Stones which are >6mm or obsructing the urine passage require treatment.
Recurrent kidney stones or multiple stones require evaluation for the cause - why they are forming- by 24 hour urine analysis and few blood report.
Kidney stone of any type can be simply prevented by adequate water intake, salt restriction, non-veg restriction and prevention of urine infection.
So, don't worry. Do above tests.
Feel free to communicate further.
Best wishes. TC

Urologist Dr. Dr. P. T. Patil's  Response
Hello
Thanks for query .
You have been detected to have stone in your both the kidneys .

The modality of treatment for kidney stone is decided on following factors .
1) If the stones are small in size below 8 mm and non obstructing in nature they are left alone and expected to pass down spontaneously .

2) If the stones are bigger than 1 cm in size they can be Fragmented by a procedure called Extra Corporeal Short Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) The fragments of the stone being small pass out spontaneously .

3) If the stone is bigger than 2 cms it is fragmented and fragments are delivered out by a procedure called Per Cutaneous Lithotripsy (PCNL).
This is an endoscopic surgery and done under anesthesia for which one needs to get hospitalized for 3-4 days .
