What Is The Remedy For Constipation?
my wife has had a lifelong bout with constipation. She a colonostepy and nothing was found. She was prescribed amateza and now she has diahrea everytime she eats and has white stools. She also has had ower back pain for a long time and thought it was due to the constipation. She is now having bouts of nausea as well

Hi,
Understood the concerns about your wife having life-long constipation. Amitiza is Lubiprostone and used in the management of chronic idiopathic constipation particularly irritable bowel syndrome-associated constipation in women. It is not not known how it works.
Hence might have got diarrhea after eating.
White stools is a concern hence I would advise her to send the stool sample for lab particularly for Bile salts and pigments.
Also to undergo Ultrasonography to see for Obstructive jaundice and liver function, pancreas lab tests. This will give an idea and plan for further management.
It is best to stop amitiza at the moment.
Diarrhea after food can also be due to some intestinal inflammatory disease and hence work up in this regards under the guidance of a Gastroenterologist.
