What Is The Recommended Dosage Of Amlodipine To Treat High BP?

5 mg of Amilodopine twice daily is not working. Just got off of Clonidine, so my doctor is trying to regulate my BP with Amilodopine. I am an RN, so when monitoring my BP, it is still too high. If I increase my dose to 10 mg twice daily is this OK? I won t be seeing my doctor until next week, but need to bring down my BP now. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The recommended initial dose of amlodipine to treat high BP is 5 mg once daily. It can be maintained at 5 to 10 mg once daily with a maximum of 10 mg per day.

You may increase the dose to 10 mg once daily and report to your doctor if you experience dizziness, light headedness, flushing, increased heartbeats and palpitations.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
